Just like at Bestival, it would be pretty cool to get a forum camping area up n' running at Camp Bessie too. As mentioned by myself on another thread a few months back, my family and I had the great misfortune of being camped next to some right ol' misery guts families (yes MORE than ONE...yet separate from each other...hows ya luck?!) last year! They were snooty, unsociable and thoroughly rude and we walked on eggshalls all weekend so as not to annoy THEM! We let it ride for the sake of our own enjoyment, but couldn't help feeling a touch disappointed, particularly as we had cracking "neighbours" the year before! Wouldn't it be great to almost guarantee camping out closer to the funky, happy, chilled party people? If only we could choose our neighbours! We are a young (ish...at heart maybe, if not in years? hehe.) family who are thoroughly responsible, respectful and considerate of others, but who also like to stay up late having a drink and a chat and a laugh and a dance and a sing-song etc etc!!! C'mon...lets try and get something planned...even if it's not meticulously organised and it's "unofficial"...what say ye? I have a disease that only buying new shoes will cure...eventually! |

I found it very weird last year that there were people I'd been chatting to online at CB and I didn't know who any of them were. Should at least do a meet up. |

And to think, CB ain't all that big, you probably walked right past most of us 20 times or more...and you never knew! Yep, defo up for a meet up at the very least...although I will be canvassing Mr DB et al for something like a forum camping area...even if it doesn't happen this year...might be too late in the day to organise? I think it would have to be separate from both family and regular camping areas...and a happy balance between the two? We have seriously considered NOT camping in family section this year, on the strength of last years experience, even though we ARE a family! It's a shame, cos all the other families we met were fab (both years) it's just the ones directly neighbouring us that were a let-down...and try as we might...they were NOT making friends! We'll be needing a forum members code...like a secret Masonic handshake to recognise each other by! Hahaha! I have a disease that only buying new shoes will cure...eventually! |

If, a week before the event, we all upload a photo of ourselves in our fancy dress outfit, I could make a 'bingo' card, then over the weekend we could all try to check off all the players/squares! .....wow..... what a genius idea i've just come up with. 'Besti-Bingo' (tm).... could even get Basement Jaxx to do the theme tune.... (to bingo bango) B-B-B BBB Besti-Bingo! Oh no sorry...your wife and child can't come...they'll have to stay in the family camping area with my old man and kids! Hahahaha! Yeah, I'm pretty sure people who use the forums will be able to have their travelling companions, festival buddies and families in the forum camp area too! My el fella loves CB...but can't be arsed with computers! I have a disease that only buying new shoes will cure...eventually! |

Would love the idea of a Forum Campsite, the kids have been really getting into checking for the latest news and threads. It would also ensure that a group of likeminded people were able to enjoy CB in all its glory. We can also plan how we are all going to get to the front to see George Clinton. Hi guys, sorry been posting a lot on the Bestival forum a lot and have neglected the CB one. OK there seems to be enthusiasm for both the forum campsite idea and the bingo card idea. So are we gonna run with both ? If so (from experience from Bestival) you need several things for a forum campsite. 1. Someone to co-ordinate. At Bestival we have one forum member who everyone contacts via the PM facility and mobile numbers are swapped. Then on the day those who can't find the forum campsite can phone / text the co-ordinator. It is important that the co-ordinator and a couple of others get there early to keep a bit of space and 'politely' explain to others who may pitch up nearby that this is the forum campsite so expect others to be coming along and there being quite a bit of chat etc. Miss Scarlet would you be up for co-ordinating at all ? 2. A landmark on site is good. This year for Bestival I hope to be bringing a distinctive marker so that other forum campers can spot the area easily. Someone who is planning to get there early could do the same for the forum site at Camp Bestival.... 3. Duncan has kindly offered to mark the forum campsite on the map, so suggest we take him up on this idea. Just need to agree where it will be. Suggestions ? Basically the biggest problem with the forum campsite is getting everyone together at the start. Probably even harder with families. I don't take my kids to Bestival and this year we had about 40 people / 20 + tents at the forum campsite and we plan to make it bigger this year. As for the bingo card idea that sounds amazing. Atatreedy, would you be able to sort this ? (You really don't want to miss Friendly Fires just to spot me by the way. Especially as I may be watching them anyway. Clashes permitting though you'll def spot me at Stornoway, wherever they play) Right, sensible organised post over.
